Japanese team looking to invest in Kerala

Our Bureau

Kochi March 12 A team of top Japanese officials is expected to visit Kerala this month in search of investment opportunities.

The officials are slated to address a seminar on `Investment Opportunities from a Japanese Perspective' on March 16, which is being organised by the Alumni Society of AOTS in Kerala (ASAK).

While AOTS is an HRD organisation functioning under the Japanese Ministry of External Trade and Industry, ASAK is part of the worldwide network of NGOs promoted by AOTS.

"This is the first time that such a seminar is being held in Kerala. It will be inaugurated by the Japanese Ambassador and would be presided over by the State Industries Minister," said a release.

There would be a presentation by the Director-General of the Japan Foundation, the State Industries Secretary and the Director-General of JETRO.

In the 60s, the first of the four Japanese joint ventures in Kerala was established.

Since then, scores of Japanese joint ventures, big and small, have come up and flourished in many parts of the country, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

But in the industrial landscape of Kerala, the only Japanese presence after four decades is in two medium-scale industries with minor partners.
