The power-strapped State of Maharashtra is poised to get a breather, with work on building a 400 kV sub-station at Talegaon, to supply nearly 1000 MW of power sourced from the national grid, commencing a few days ago.
Located on a 42-acre plot in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, the project involves bringing of power from Chhattisgarh to Talegaon via extra high voltage transmission lines. Three 315 Mega Volt Ampere transformers are being erected for the purpose, two of them immediately, and transmission lines are being put up between Parli in Beed district and Talegaon. The substation is expected to go on stream in the middle of 2009.
The work, being executed by the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd under the aegis of the Ministry of Power is part of the Rs 5,200-crore project for the western region, which comprises Maharashtra, Gujrat, Goa and Madhya Pradesh.
In Maharashtra, it involves setting up of new substations at Sholapur, Pune and Parli. Transmission lines, which have already been put up till Bhadravati, will now be extended till Parli, and further between Parli-Talegaon and Parli-Sholapur-Kolhapur.
The power, which will be sourced essentially from National Thermal Power Corporation's power plant in Sipat, Chhattisgarh will then be provided for distribution in the State.
