Industry task force meets Karunanidhi

Chennai March 13 The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, urged industry representatives to upgrade the training facilities and systems in the ITIs, polytechnics and engineering institutions.

Addressing the first meeting of the industry task force here today, he said that creating a skilled workforce and improving the employability of the students was a major challenge. Government and private sector industries should involve closely with the educational institutions in their area to improve the training facilities.

It may be recalled that the State Government last year constituted a Special Task Force headed by the Chief Minister for industry-government interaction.

The task force includes the Chief Secretary, Mr L.K. Tripathy, and leading industrialists and representatives from industry association.

The Chief Minister sought the industries' suggestions for the growth of the various sectors.

In the last 10 months, the State has attracted industrial investments of over Rs 7,000 crore, which would generate 37,000 jobs and indirect employment for over 60,000 people, he said.

Madurai IT park

A separate press release said that the State Government has allocated land for setting up a software park at Madurai along the lines of the Tidel Park in Chennai.

The State Government had announced that it would set up software parks in the tier II towns including Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi and Hosur. Last September, it initiated steps to set up a facility in Coimbatore. Madurai is the next facility in the pipeline.
