`Hiring intentions remain optimistic'

Our Bureau

Bangalore, March 13

Hiring intention for Q2 of 2007 continues to be optimistic in the country, with about 33 per cent of employers surveyed by Manpower Services India expecting an increase in their hiring activity during the period. Of the 4,858 employers across seven sectors surveyed, 58 per cent expected no change in their pace of recruitment and two per cent anticipate a decrease in hiring activity. Employers in the mining and construction sector reported the most optimistic outlook among all the seven industry sectors. Other sectors studied in the survey are finance, insurance and real estate, manufacturing, services, public administration and education, transportation and utilities, wholesale and retail trade.

Commenting on the survey findings, Mr Soumen Basu, Executive Chairman, Manpower India, said, "There is a slight easing of hiring intentions in the second quarter as employers are focussing on maintaining their workforces at the current levels. Also companies will be reviewing their requirements at the beginning of the next fiscal year." Manpower's global survey of hiring intentions shows that India stands fifth among 27 countries in its hiring intentions.
