MR R. ZUTSHI
Hyderabad March 13 Consumer and electronics products company Samsung India on Tuesday announced the launch of a range of window and split air-conditioners ahead of the summer season. The company rolled out what it refers to as first MPI (Micro Plasma Ion) technology range of split air-conditioners developed with an investment of about $3 million by their in-house R&D teams. MPI generates active hydrogen and oxygen atoms that neutralise the impact of harmful viruses, bacteria and allergens. The company said that consumers in India are gradually but certainly moving towards split ACs. While the split ACs accounted for about 46 per cent in 2006, this number is poised to go up to 50 per cent by the end of 2007. The Deputy Managing Director of Samsung India, Mr R. Zutshi, said the company R&D centre at Noida has laid special emphasis on customising the product range for the Indian market and the launch of these products reflects this effort. This has meant roll out of ACs with Ultra Tropical Rotary compressor that is capable of handling temperatures up to 50 degrees Centigrade. The Director, Sales, Samsung India, Mr Pradeep Tognatta, said that the new range of ACs and expansion of sales and service network should see the AC business going up by about 50 per cent this year. Alongside, the Window AC range too, has been enriched with Good Sleep Mode and seven models here compliment the range of Vivace, Moderato and Forte models. These are priced between Rs 14,990 and Rs 39,990. Referring to Samsung India, Mr Zutshi said that the company was aiming at a growth rate of about 20 per cent to touch revenues of about $1.2 billion this year.
CHENNAI PLANT
Samsung India's second manufacturing base now under way with an investment of $100 million at Sriperambudur would begin production by August 2007 and help the company add to its volumes significantly, Mr Zutshi said. The plant would initially begin production of TVs and colour monitors in the first phase and later on take to production of printers.
