New Projects States - West Bengal JSW Steel open to relocating plant site if people resist Our Bureau
Kolkata March 14 JSW Steel Ltd, which is putting up a 10-million tonnes per annum capacity steel plant at Salboni near Kharagpur at an estimated investment of Rs 35,000 crore, is open to the idea of relocating the plant site if it is required. This was stated here on Wednesday by Mr Sajjan Jindal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Steel Ltd, after his meeting with the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Mr Jindal told newspersons that there was no major resistance from the local people at Salboni where the plant was expected to come up on around 5,000 acres of land. However, there had been some minor resistance from the local people, which was not a problem. If the resistance grew, the company was prepared to shift the location of the plant, he said. Ninety per cent of the land required for the plant would be given by the State Government on 99 years lease while the balance would be procured directly by the company. The project, for which a special purpose vehicle has been floated, was on schedule, Mr Jindal said.
