Bangalore March 14 The boom in the construction industry has led to a spurt in demand for specialty construction products of high aesthetic value.

Trying to cash in on this trend is Basant Betons, manufacturer of concrete products for landscaped areas, which launched a Rs 40-crore greenfield project to produce a wide range of products for landscaped areas.

The construction of the facility, to be located at the Harohalli Industrial Area near here, would commence in the next few days, said Mr Suresh L. Patil, Managing Director, Basant Betons.

Giving details of the financial aspects of this project, Mr Patil said the promoters would invest Rs 15 crore. When completed, the facility would be able to produce over 27,000 concrete blocks in eight hours.

Terming the Indian market for these products as massive, he said the new unit is expected to clock a turnover of Rs 100 crore and also break even at the end of the second year.

Joining hands with them in this venture is Germany's Masa AG which would equip the plant to enable manufacture of high-strength products with dimensional tolerance, minimal wastage in terms of breakage and good surface finish. Besides, the German company would also equip Basant Betons with the necessary technical know-how and train the latter's employees in successful global production practices from time to time. In return, Basant Betons would share one per cent of their profits with Masa AG, Mr Patil said.
