Concor to run weekly Ernakulam, Bangalore trains

Kochi March 14

Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) had decided to run weekly trains between Ernakulam and Bangalore in order to maintain the stream of traffic between the Kochi port and export centres of Bangalore.

The damage rendered to some pillars of Venduruthy bridge had disrupted the container traffic between the Kochi port and Ernakulam.

Concor has now taken the initiative and had coordinated with the Railways, the Indian Gateway Terminal and the customs officials to revive the container traffic and handle the container trains at Ernakulam, a press release issued here has said.

Revive exim biz

The introduction of container trains between Bangalore and Ernakulam is expected to revive the export-import business through the Kochi port.

Though the trains are not expected to run full in the return direction from Ernakulam, Concor said that the move was expected to keep up the stream of traffic to the Kochi port.

Any inconvenience that the trade suffered due to the disruption in rail container traffic would be rectified and there would be no extra cost to the users of the service, the release said. The first of such trains between Bangalore and Ernakulam was handled on March 14 enabling 62 containers to reach Kochi.
