Info-Tech - Telecommunications
Clear lines

This part is a bit delayed in transmission, but Telecom and IT Minister Dayanadhi Maran is not all sweet and honey with private telecom players. If the push comes to shove, Maran can hold his own as he did at a telecom event in Barcelona recently. The Minister had called a press briefing of Indian journalists covering the event and representatives of the Cellular Operators Association of India also trooped in. Asked for his views on 3-G services, Maran spoke his mind and basically said that there was much hype surrounding these services. T. V. Ramachandran, Director-General of COAI, tried to give a spin and sought to clarify what the Minister was "trying" to say. An infuriated Maran was quick to interject, "This is my press conference and I know what to say."
