Visakhapatnam March 15 Information technology sector here is set for a major thrust forward, as the Satyam Computers centre at the TB hospital junction on the national highway is getting ready for inauguration, according to Mr D. Haranatha Reddy, Zonal Manager (Projects) of AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd. In an interview here, he said the Satyam Computers centre might be opened towards the month-end or during the next month. It may get operational on a full scale in one or two months. "It marks a major milestone, as the State Government is attempting aggressively to promote Vizag as a very attractive option among tier-two cities in the country. The entry of a major company is always welcome. Earlier, of course, HSBC set up a call centre. Satyam would be the second major entering Vizag," he said. He said Satyam Computers was granted 6.5 acres of land near the TB hospital junction and Wipro seven acres. "Wipro has started work on the project and it may take a year or more for it to get going. According to the norm laid down by the State Government, each IT company should generate at least 100 direct jobs for each acre of land allotted to it, but we are sure both the companies will generate many more jobs," he said. Smaller IT companies, he said, were allotted sites on two hillocks on the Vizag-Bheemli road in the vicinity of the Rushikonda beach. "Six companies have started construction work. They are smaller units, getting one or two acres of land on the hillocks. Fifteen more companies have been allotted sites. Kennexa Technologies is by far the biggest unit there, getting 25 acres of land. The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) is developing the infrastructure there," he said and added that SEZ status would be accorded to the units.
Twin IT towers
On the twin IT towers proposed on the beach road here, Mr Haranatha Reddy said the legal problem with regard to the site had been overcome, but the lowest bidder had backed out. The project had suffered a delay due to the reason, but it would be pursued, he said.
