CII's Coimbatore head to focus on industrial growth

Mr K. Thangaraj

Coimbatore, March 15

After assuming office as CII Coimbatore Zone Chairman, Mr K. Thangaraj, has avowed to accelerate the industrial growth pace in this region.

"There is scope for leveraging competencies, brand equity and capital base to catapult the companies here to a bigger league.

For this, the industries would have to come out of its shell and move up to the next orbit in size, turnover and global business," he said.

While the need to grow is becoming imperative, companies would have to gear up their strength - both manpower and competencies - to emerge stronger, bigger.

"We have to look at the open market, more as an opportunity to partner and prosper than a threat to our business," he said and added that the CII proposed to undertake some initiatives and programmes to explore uncovered opportunities such as China, Latin America, Taiwan and Southern Africa through value added trading activities and support services.

"This effort is aimed at creating more jobs for the educated and skilled as well as the unskilled workers".

Citing the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) October 2006 review, Mr Thangaraj said "the 82 projects that are expected to come up in this district could trigger the industrial manpower demand. The industries are already suffering from want of skilled workforce. To strategise on the emerging demand, the CII proposes to work with educational institutions for imparting training and meeting the manpower needs of the industry.

He emphasised the need for networking among member companies for improving competitiveness and urged the members to look at macro parameters like market capitalisation.
