Shipping Dept of Shipping studying options for divesting CIWTC Our Bureau
New Delhi March 15 Having initiated action on restructuring Central Inland Water Transport Corporation of India (CIWTC), the Department of Shipping is studying viability of disinvesting CIWTC with various employee strengths. This was stated by the Union Minister of Shipping, Mr T.R. Baalu, while replying to a query in the Lok Sabha hereon Thursday.
Assess viability
"Action has been initiated by the Department of Shipping to assess the viability of disinvestments of CIWTC with varying employee strengths," he stated. The Government has decided to handover Rajabagan Dockyard (RBD) to Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers or to any other public sector enterprise along with the existing manpower, assets and liabilities and to disinvest CIWTC minus RBD, he added. CIWTC undertakes transportation of cargo in National Waterways-1 and National Waterways-2. The corporation used to undertake shipbuilding and repair of riverine ships through RBD.
