AP sets commercial tax target

Hyderabad March 16 Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, has asked the officials of the Commercial Taxes Department to take measures to achieve the target of Rs 16,300 crore by the end of the current financial year. The target for next financial year has been put at Rs 20,850 crore.

Reviewing the performance of the Department here on Friday, he asked the officials to keep tabs on tax evasions in the petroleum sector and arrest loss of revenues. He also directed the department to strengthen the border check posts by modern- isation through build-operate-transfer model.

The Department registered collections of Rs 14,314 crore up to February 2007, registering a growth rate of 26.2 per cent. While collections in VAT registered a growth of 30 per cent, contribution from petroleum sector registered only 18 per cent growth.
