David Jones sizes up local apparels

Archana Venkat

Chennai March 16 One of Australia's oldest retail store chains, David Jones, wants to buy apparel from India. According to Mr C. Sarat Chandran, Director, Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce, the company is in talks with the Chamber to set up a sourcing centre for apparel in Coimbatore or Chennai. It is also looking at India as a centre to add value to fabrics imported from abroad.

The company is also thinking of processing high quality imported fabric in India. This may include designing, stitching and finishing the fabric into apparel and reselling it under a brand name in David Jones stores spread across Australia, Mr Sarat Chandran told Business Line on the sidelines of the workshop.

Other chain stores dealing with textiles, electronic appliances and grocery have also expressed interest to set shop in India, he said.
