Mumbai March 17 The first-ever South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) car rally was flagged off on Thursday from Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh. Others helping the rally are the Ministry of External Affairs (India), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and member-States of SAARC. Tata Motors is the vehicle sponsor carrying the motto: `Connecting People, Strengthening Ties'. The company has provided 24 Tata Safaris and two Tata 207 double cab pickups. Nine Tata Motors' dealers are also participating in the rally. Mr Rajiv Dube, President, Passenger Car Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "We are very happy to be associated with the first-ever SAARC car rally. It builds on the role Tata Motors played over two years ago in supporting the first-ever India-ASEAN car rally that helped bridge the distance between member countries in a fun way through motor sport. We are delighted to join hands with the Government of India and the CII in this innovative initiative of fostering better understanding in the SAARC region." The 120 participants in rally, will cover over 8,200 km, across varying terrain in Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka over about 30 days, before ending at the Maldives. In India, the rally will touch Assam, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra (including Mumbai).
