Opinion - Letters
HR-speak

The article "Are HR professionals in the people business any longer?" (Business Line, March 12) was thought-provoking. The contention that HR has lost its "people face" might be right, but what happens on the other side is equally important. Frequently, HR is either demonised or eulogised by organisations. It seems to be always HR versus other departments. Whenever I talk to people of other departments they say, "You are unlike HR".

The stereotypes work both ways. In India, with mai baap mentality, HR is always seen as a conduit of the management. But I think HR alone cannot be blamed for not being people-friendly. People have somehow forgotten to be genuine in the shadow of big words like `talent', `customer first' and other such jargon bandied around.
