Opinion - Letters
Transparency is vital

This is with reference to "Budget: Not in sync with times" (Business Line, March 16). For the growth of the economy, transparency of government policy is as important as provision of infrastructure or political climate.

The tax regime should not upset planning and projections by springing surprises such as introduction of retrospective tax or Minimum Alternate Tax. Besides, if retrospective taxation is made legal, what is the guarantee that the next government will not deny the promised MAT-adjustments?

H. R. Banerjee
