To provide administrative, processing support

VFS Global has entered into a 5-yr outsourcing contract to handle visa and entry clearance applications in 7 geographical regions.

Mumbai March 18 VFS Global Services Pvt Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Kuoni Travel Group, has entered into a five-year outsourcing contract worth about £200 million (Rs 1,717.8 crore) to handle visa and entry clearance applications for UKvisas in seven geographical regions.

UKvisas manages the UK's entry clearance operations from visa offices at UK embassies, high commissions and consulates abroad.

VFS will provide administrative and processing support, leaving UKvisas to handle assessment and decision-making, according to Mr Sanjay Bhaduri, Chief Operating Officer of VFS.

The seven regions are South Asia, South-East Asia, Middle East, South-East Africa, Russia, Far East and the UK.

VFS currently processes over 30 lakh visas annually from 136 application centres in Asia, Africa, West Asia and Eastern Europe.

It will now scale up operations at the existing offices.

The company also plans to increase the number of visa processing centres to 189 across the globe by the last quarter of the current calendar year, Mr Bhaduri said.

"All applications for UK visas from residents in South-East Asia will be processed at the New Delhi office, which will now be turned into a regional hub for South-East Asia," he told Business Line.

Sources close to the development said that VFS Global Services has earmarked Rs 125 crore through internal accruals to ramp up operations.

However, Mr Bhaduri refused to comment.

The new visa processing centres would come up in unrepresented areas like China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Nepal.
