LIC gesture to polio-affected

Hyderabad March 18 The South Central Zone of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has donated Rs 60 lakh to support the project of providing calipers to the people affected by polio. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy launched the project on Sunday.

The Zonal Manager of LIC, Mr T. Chattopadhyay handed over a letter of commitment to the Chief Minister. About 20 polio-affected children of different age groups would be benefited by this gesture.

STATE COVERAGE

Mr Chattopadhyay said the LIC would organise the programme in coordination with the NIMS here. The programme would be extended to all the polio-affected children in the State in a phased manner. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is already supporting the project.

As part of LIC's social security activities it has donated a dialysis machine to Bangalore Kidney Foundation and a Mini Bust to a society for mentally retarded children in Hyderabad. In Visakhapatnam, it has donated for the construction of an operation theatre and a ward to Shankara Eye Foundation.
