Kolkata March 19 The West Bengal Government on Monday formally issued a notification stating that no land would be acquired for setting up industry in Nandigram. The notification, issued by the East Medinipur District Magistrate, Mr Anup Agarwal, stated that the Government would not acquire any land in Nandigram block for setting up industries.

The move is expected to diffuse tension in the area. Nandigram villages are still tense following violent clashes between the villagers and the police on March 14, which left 14 people dead and several injured.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Home Secretary, Mr Prasad Ranjan Ray, told newspersons that the State Government would order an executive inquiry to probe the Nandigram incident.
