Manoj Kohli heads Bharti's telecom biz

MR MANOJ KOHLI

New Delhi March 20 With Mr Sunil Mittal relinquishing his operation responsibilities in Bharti Airtel, the Group has appointed Mr Manoj Kohli to head the company's telecom business. Taking forward the recently unveiled Bharti Enterprises strategic apex organisation structure and governance model, the Group has also appointed Mr Sanjay Kapoor, Mr Atul Bindal, Mr David Nishball as Joint Presidents to lead the mobile business, broadband and telephony and enterprise services respectively.

Making the announcement, Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Group CEO, Bharti Enterprises, said, "As we strengthen and build Bharti Enterprises, as a truly diversified conglomerate of the future, it is important to strengthen the existing business roles and responsibilities at Bharti Airtel. The objective is to ensure greater operational empowerment and enable effective management of growth. These changes will further empower the team at Bharti Airtel, drive it towards a stronger market share and take forward Bharti's entrepreneurial ethos with an enhanced professional culture."

Mr Kohli will report to Mr Mittal, and work closely with Mr Akhil Gupta, Group Lead Director - Telecom, Bharti Enterprises.

The three joint presidents will report to Mr Kohli. Mr Sarvjit Dhillon has been given enhanced responsibility and will be Chief Financial Officer and Director-Strategy, Bharti Airtel Ltd. Mr Dhillon will report to Mr Kohli and functionally to Mr Akhil Gupta, who is also the Chairman of Group Finance and Audit Council.

Bloomberg reports: Bharti Airtel Ltd plans to sign up as many as 90 million users in three years and seek to acquire companies in the South Asian region to fend off a challenge from Vodafone Group Plc.

It will invest $8 billion in marketing, relay towers and network equipment to garner 25 per cent of the Indian market, Mr Manoj Kohli, has said in an interview.
