Cotton exports may top 48 l bales

New Delhi, March 20

Cotton exports from the country are slated to touch 48 lakh bales valued at Rs 3,791.19 crore this fiscal, the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan, informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

This would break the record exports of 47 lakh bales (each of 170 kg) worth Rs 3,712.21 crore achieved in 2005-06. During 2002-03, a mere 0.84 lakh bales (Rs 66.31 crore) were shipped out, while amounting to 12.11 lakh bales (Rs 1,089.15 crore) and 9.14 lakh bales (Rs 657.34 crore) the following two years.
