Sugar Sugar output estimate raised Our Bureau
New Delhi March 20 The Centre has officially raised its estimate of sugar production for the ongoing 2006-07 season (October-September) to 238.34 lakh tonnes (lt), from the earlier level of 227.34 lt. The upward revision is on account of the Maharashtra Government estimating output in the State at 81 lt, which is a sharp jump from the previous 70 lt, the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, said in a reply to a starred question in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The Centre has, however, maintained its earlier estimates for other States. Thus, Uttar Pradesh is expected to produce 69.80 lt; Tamil Nadu 22.98 lt; Karnataka 19 lt; Andhra Pradesh 13.26 lt; Gujarat 12.26 lt; Haryana 5.50 lt; Punjab 4.51 lt; and Bihar 3.25 lt.
