Carrier raising prices of new products

The move follows hike in prices of essential inputs

Kolkata March 20 Carrier Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Ltd, a subsidiary of Carrier Corp, has decided to raise the prices of its new range of products by 3-5 per cent shortly, according to Mr Zubin Irani, Managing Director of Career Corp (India Region).

Addressing a news conference here today to announce the launch of Carrier's new range of energy-efficient products, Mr Irani said the proposed rise in the prices of new products would be on account of a rise in the prices of essential inputs such as copper, steel and aluminium that go into Carrier products.

Power Consumption

Mr Irani clarified that the price hike was not on account of extra costs that would be incurred on labelling manufacturing products, as per the Union Ministry of Power's Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) norms for star rating that provides for cooling with lower power consumption.

Mr Irani said the company's communication strategy would focus on energy labelling, a provision that is set to become mandatory from July this year. Besides, the company would further strengthen its engineering capabilities and supply chain management. With expectations of strong growth over the next 4-5 year-period, Carrier would need to take a call on augmenting manufacturing capacities in India.

While no plans had been firmed up in this regard, Carrier was open to the idea of taking both the organic and inorganic route to growth, he said.
