RINL expansion: Work on sinter plant-3 begins

TURNKEY PROJECT: Mr Y. Sivasagara Rao, CMD, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, with officials during the inauguration of the construction works of sinter plant-3 on Wednesday.

Visakhapatnam March 21 The construction work on sinter plant-3, taken up as part of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant expansion project, began on Wednesday.

Mr Y. Sivasagara Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, said that it was the first of the turnkey projects in the expansion project.

It has been awarded to McNally Bharat Engineering Company, Kolkata and Tyazhpromexport (Russia).

The total cost of the project is Rs 687 crore; the project is to be commissioned in 28 months.

Mr Rao also said that the sinter plant, with annual capacity of 3.61 million tonnes, would have modern technology.

Both the companies are pioneers in their fields and they should put in their best efforts to complete the works 4-6 months ahead of schedule.

They would be assisted by the projects team of the steel plant and there should be no hurdles, he said.

He also said that attractive bonus packages were included in the contract to motivate the executing agencies to complete the works ahead of schedule.

Mr Ishmuratov, Vice-President of the Russian company, and Mr Srinivash Singh, Managing Director of McNally Bharat, Mr A.K Banerjee, Executive Director (Projects), RINL, and several other senior officials were present.

The total cost of the steel plant expansion project is Rs 8,600 crore.

It is intended to increase the capacity of the plant from 3.2 million tonnes to 6.3 million tonnes.
