TCI Seaways buys fifth vessel

Kolkata March 21 TCI Seaways, the shipping arm of Transport Corporation of India, announced on Wednesday its acquisition of a fifth vessel, TCI Surya, according to company sources.

The 312-TEU capacity (4,508 dwt) vessels, also capable of handling project cargoes with the help of a 40-tonne crane on board as well as 60 reefer containers, will be deployed on the coast and also to serve ports in the SAARC countries, the sources added.

With this, the company's fleet capacity rises to 16,000 dwt. Mr D.P. Agarwal, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director of Transport Corporation of India, said TCI Seaways was planning to acquire three more vessels in the next few years. "We have plans to augment our shipping business which is witnessing an exponential growth," he said.
