Events Golden Leaf India awards in Kochi today Our Bureau
Kochi March 21 The third edition of the Golden Leaf India Awards: Southern Tea Competition, organised by UPASI and Tea Board, starting here on Thursday will unfold the hidden vistas of quality characteristics of South Indian teas, from being one that fits into a mass market category to its position of exclusivity, according to Mr J.K. Thomas, President, UPASI and Vice-Chairman of Tea Board. He said in a press release that 208 entries from 89 estates/bought leaf factories from Anamallais, High Ranges, Nilgiris, Central Travancore, Wayanad and other regions of Karnataka, Nelliampathy, Madurai, Singampatti, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari participated in the first round of this competition held at Coonoor recently. Teas that have reached the final round of competition will be evaluated by a panel of international jurists on Thursday forenoon. The Union Minister of State for Commerce, Mr Jairam Ramesh, will give away the awards.
