LURING CUSTOMERS: A view of a Reliance Fresh store at Frazer Town in Bangalore. G.R.N. Somashekar
Bangalore March 22 Reliance Retail's farm-to-fork concept was launched in Bangalore on Thursday with the opening of 11 Reliance Fresh stores simultaneously across the city. With a promise of making available over 150 types of fruits and vegetables, staples, top-up grocery and dairy products, each outlet is targeting 3,000 households in its neighbourhood. Speaking to newspersons after the launch, Mr Gunender Kapur, President and CEO, Foods Business, Reliance Retail Ltd, said that the outlets would come with benefits to consumers such as free home delivery, membership and loyalty programmes, separate enclosure for non-vegetarian food items and shop-on-phone. Following the Bangalore launch, Reliance Retail plans outlets in Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore soon, Mr Kapur said. It has put in place 156 city collection centres across the country where farmers from surrounding areas offload their produce to the retail chain. The company is also working on rolling out a partnership programme with the farmers, wherein the latter will be offered technical advice in agri-business. Reliance kicked off its Rs 25,000-crore retail project in November last year with its first store in Hyderabad. It currently has stores in Jaipur, Chennai, NCR Delhi and Ranchi, with a total area of 190,000 sq ft. Speaking on Reliance's plans for other formats, Mr Kapur said that the hypermarket chain would begin in 3-4 months, but did not give details of the location.
