Grand festivities planned for Rajasthan Day

Our Bureau

Kolkata March 22 With a view to attracting more tourists from West Bengal, the Rajasthan Foundation (Kolkata Chapter) has planned to showcase "the soul of Rajasthan in essence and spirit", as part of its Rajasthan Day celebrations here next week.

This year the Rajasthan Day celebrations will be held from March 30-April 2. This was announced here recently at a press conference that was attended by, among others, Ms Sumitra Singh, Speaker of Rajasthan Assembly.

The celebrations will showcase exhibits of various designers, folk art, culture, music, dance, theatrical performances and cuisine. The food and festival fiesta will be held at the Bengal Rowing Club on March 30 and 31, and at Hindustan Club on April 1 and 2. Chefs brought from Rajasthan will lay out specially-chosen Bikaneri, Jodhpuri and Mewari cuisine, according to Mr H.M. Bangur, President of Rajasthan Foundation (Kolkata Chapter).

Mr Bangur said Bengalis comprise the single-largest linguistic group to visit Rajasthan as tourists. To attract more tourists from here, the Foundation is keen to showcase the State in all its hues to a larger audience. With this in view, it has been proposed to hold the Rajasthan Day celebrations on a bigger scale in the years ahead, he said.
