The country's crude oil production increased by 4.9 per cent in February with companies like ONGC producing 2.667 million tonnes (mt) of crude oil compared with 2.54 mt in the corresponding month last year. However, the natural gas output fell by one per cent to 2.5 billion cubic meters.

A Petroleum Ministry data released on Thursday showed that crude oil output from the Mumbai High fields, operated by ONGC, went up by 10.4 per cent to 1.428 mt last month. The fields account for more than half of India's annual oil production. Crude oil production by private explorers such as Cairn Energy Plc climbed 4 per cent to 3,89,000 tonnes in February, it said.
