Aftek overseas arm inks pact with German co

Our Bureau

Mumbai March 22 Arexara Information Technologies AG, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aftek, has entered into an agreement with BDT AG of Germany under which Arexara will license its search technology, Gingcom, for BDT's new data storage device.

Gingcom is an IT solution that enables organisations to find, restore and use every document created or received through e-mail, with just a click.

The service can archive PCs, notebooks, servers and applications systems. User data and profiles are automatically stored and doubly backed.

"For each application sold by BDT, Arexara will be entitled for a royalty payment of 250 euros," said Mr Ranjit Dhuru, Chairman and Managing Director of Aftek.

BDT has targeted sales of 50,000-70,000 Gingcom appliances through its own network.

DigiHome Solutions, the home automation service arm of Aftek, is currently in talks with Intel Capital for infusing capital into the company by picking up stake.

"We will soon provide our accounts to Intel Capital for due diligence," said Mr Dhuru.

Though it is unclear what percentage Intel will buy in DigiHome, Mr Pramod Broota, Director, said that Intel generally doesn't pick more than 25 per cent stake in companies.

Aftek currently has 25 per cent stake in DigiHome.

It plans to increase its stake in DigiHome to 51 per cent after Intel picks up the stake through infusion of fresh equity.

Intel Capital, the investment arm of Intel, has invested $6 billion in companies worldwide since 1991.
