Cheap imports

DUTY-CUT IMPACT: Sunflowers grown in the backdrop of a wind farm near Palani in Tamil Nadu. Sunflower oil imports may turn cheaper as a reduction of about 60 per cent in basic customs duty in refined sunoil and about 50 per cent in crude sunoil announced in the Budget as a move to remove special additional duty. Sunoil imports during 2005-06 totalled one lakh tonnes, while arrivals in the first three months of current year are close to 50,000 tonnes.
