Exporters welcome VAT on textile machinery

Our Bureau

Coimbatore March 23 The Tamil Nadu Government's Budget proposal to levy 4 per cent VAT on sale of textile machinery has been welcomed by the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA).

The proposal to levy four per cent VAT on the textile machinery as industrial input either at the dealer/trade point or by the machinery manufacturer has ended the confusion that prevailed over the State levy on textile machinery, the association maintained.

New district

The announcement to create new districts soon has also pepped the enthusiasm of the hosiery exporting town where the industry has been pleading for formation of a new district with Tirupur as the headquarter.

"It is heartening to note the Government has accepted in-principle the formation of Tirupur district," said the TEA Pesident, Mr Sakthivel, and hoped the creation of the district will happen soon after completion of the de-limitation process of Legislative Assembly constituencies.
