Outlook States - Maharashtra Cognizant readies Pune expansion plans Our Bureau

Pune March 23 Cognizant Technology Solutions, player in the IT and business process outsourcing services, has chalked out expansion plans for Pune. Talking to presspersons, Mr R. Chandrasekharan, President and Managing Director, said the company has been given in-principle agreement for acquiring 30 acres of land in Phase 3 of Hinjewadi. Phase 3 is also part of the special economic zone. He noted that this centre would become operational from early 2009. Mr Chandrasekharan did not disclose details of the investment or the centre's capabilities. He said it has also firmed up additional leased facility at ISH Infotech in Hinjewadi, measuring 1,80,000 sq ft, which is adjacent to its existing location.
Headcount
This facility would house 1,600 IT professionals. He said it is also ramping up its headcount from the present 4,500 in Pune to 6,500 by the end of December 2007. He said of the new recruits, about 65 per cent would be from campus selection. The Pune development centre focuses on three industry segments: financial services, manufacturing and life sciences. Out of the total revenue, about 48 per cent is contributed from financial services, 23 per cent from life sciences and health care and 15 per cent from retail and manufacturing. He noted that the company, which had recorded a turnover of $1.42 billion for the year ended December 2006, is targeting $2.04 billion for the current calendar year.
