Alliances & Joint Ventures Industry & Economy - Steel Chinese steel firm Wuhan plans joint venture in India Our Bureau
New Delhi March 23 A delegation from the Chinese Steel major, Wuhan, called on the Minister of State for Steel, Dr Akhilesh Das, on Friday and expressed its interest for joint ventures in India. A four-member delegation from the company led by its Chairman, Mr Deng Qilin, apprised the Minister of their technological capability in manufacturing of high-grade steel and special steel particularly for use in the automotive sector. According to an official release, the Chairman of Steel Authority, Mr S.R. Roongta, who was also present during the meeting said, SAIL is embarking on an expansion plan and there is ample scope for both the companies to cooperate. Dr Das asked both sides to work out the modalities for cooperation. Wuhan is the largest state-owned steel company in China with a capacity of 20 million tones.
