Spot rubber stays firm

Kottayam March 24 Spot rubber prices witnessed a firm closing on Saturday. Covering groups and speculators continued to remain optimistic and they procured the arrivals offering better quotes.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 improved further to Rs 94 and Rs 94.50 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi from Rs 93 a kg on Friday.

Futures weak

The rubber futures turned weak against expectations. RSS 4 weakened at its April contract to Rs 93.40 (94.17), May to Rs 97.15 (98.20), June to Rs 100.11 (101.24) and July to Rs 102.12 (103.10) a kg on NMCE. The volumes totalled 2,495 (3,490) tonnes and open interest 12,454 (12,398) tonnes. The April delivery contract for RSS 4 was also weak at Rs 94.80 against Rs 95.31 a kg on MCX.

Spot rubber prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 94 (93); RSS-5: 93 (92.50); Ungraded: 92 (91.50); ISNR 20: 92.50 (92) and Latex 60 per cent: 64.20 (64.20).
