Mumbai, March 24 With India on the verge of being eliminated from the World Cup, cricket fans across the country decided to forgo a night's sleep to support their team. Television ratings agency aMap data shows that India's match against Sri Lanka drew a television rating point (TRP) of 10.14 as late as midnight. The India-Bermuda match saw a TRP of 5.12 around midnight. And fans continued watching even as the wheels came off India's quest to qualify for the Super 8 round. TRPs were over seven even as late as 1 a.m. It was only when India lost three quick wickets that fans began to drift away in despair. Ratings for the first inning were in line with the numbers produced during India's first two games, with the Sri Lanka match hitting a high of 13.55 just before the break between innings, marginally up from the TRP of 13 for the Bermuda match. However, the rating for the entire match across the three channels SAB TV, SET Max and Doordarshan was 8.53, up from 5.88 and 5.51 thanks to those who stayed up and watched longer. The match attracted over 47 per cent of all TV viewers in India (4.88 crore viewers), who each turned in for just under two hours on average. That represents an increase of almost 20 minutes per person compared to India's match against Bangladesh. Fans watched that match for 99 minutes on average. Fans in cable and satellite homes watched the game for an average of 100 minutes, up 11 minutes over the previous two games. SET Max also moved to the top of the list of most watched channels on the nights India played, bumping Star Plus down each time. SAB TV came in second twice, when India played Bangladesh and again on Friday night, with Star Plus taking the runner's up spot the other time.
