Ashok Leyland, PSG tie up for career-oriented courses

Our Bureau

Coimbatore March 25 Ashok Leyland has signed a memorandum of understanding with the PSG College of Technology to offer career-oriented Post-Graduate Diploma courses for graduates in Physics and Applied Sciences.

The AICTE-approved programme is aimed at converting B.Sc graduates to engineers and would be open from this academic year.

The cost of the 18-month duration courses — PG diploma in Manufacturing Technology (PGDMT) and PG Diploma in Automobile Sales and Service (PGDAS) — would be borne by Ashok Leyland, its Executive Director (Human Resources), Mr J.N. Amrolia, said.

First attempt

Stating that this was the first time that such an attempt was being made to design a course and provide a platform for graduates to compete with engineering students, the Chief Executive of PSG Institutions, Mr C.R. Swaminathan, said the conventional industry-institute collaborations had so far been limited to final semester courses being modified to meet industry requirements or trainees sent for further special training to institutes.

Ashok Leyland estimates the cost per student at Rs 70,000 during the first 12-months of the course. Thereafter, the student would take up internship at the various plants and service centres of the company for a stipend.
