Education States - Tamil Nadu `Adaptability, flexibility and perseverance keys to success' Our Correspondent
MR N. VENKATARAMAN, Senior Manager (Marketing), India Cements Ltd, Madurai, addressing the inaugural meeting of the Business Line Club at the Department of Economics, Lady Doak College (Autonomous), Madurai. G. Moorthy
Madurai March 25 "Take up one idea, dream and live that to succeed. This will require on the person, tremendous perseverance, a will and sacrifice of many other and that will be a price one will have to pay for the success," said Mr N. Venkataraman, Senior Manager (Marketing), India Cements Ltd, Madurai. In any competitive scenario, be it the industry/company/product/place, unless one is smarter than the other, one cannot win. To succeed in a competition, one should be ready to do anything under the sun to achieve it. This will require on the person certain qualities, Mr Venkataraman said while addressing on `Strategic Management - Meditation/Prayer with an Open Eye' at the inaugural meeting of the Business Line Club, organised by the Department of Economics, Lady Doak College (Autonomous), here on Friday. Elaborating on the required qualities, he said the use of the language should hurt none and one should learn to put oneself on others' shoes to understand a problem or a situation. A perfect chemistry will be required to be established with the boss and with a mindset that is willing to learn and work differently from others. Adaptation and flexibility will be crucial. An open mind and an attitude with self-belief are necessary. These will help to see the things in the right perspective, he mentioned. He said one would need to take note of the ground realities and work on the same. He pointed out that while one cannot stop the wind from blowing in the sea, one could always adjust the sailing and continue the movement towards the destination. Barriers to the march, if any form, should be broken and the journey continued, he emphasised. Learning from the experience of others will prove more useful. Visualise them again and again and take the good things from them and turn the situation to one's favour. One will need to build warm relationship with others to work successfully. For this, ego will have to be given up. There may be hundred negatives in a situation or a relationship and the brain might normally work negatively, yet the positives, more often only a few, will need to be identified and worked upon, he added. He dwelt upon the need to compile the data on the work and activities for a periodic review and self-assessment to help the future course. Any significant contribution by any one to the success of the effort should be appreciated and the happiness shared with others, he underscored.
