Plea for credit-linked subsidy scheme

Our Bureau

Kochi, March 25

The Kerala State Small Industries Association has protested against the Union Government's decision to discontinue with the Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme for technology upgradation from the next financial year. In a representation submitted to the Union Minister of State for SSI, Mr Mahabir Prasad, the Association President, Mr A.P.M. Abdul Rahim, said that the scheme was an incentive for more and more units to come forward to upgrade themselves technologically. In the era of rapid globalisation, he pointed out that small-scale industries are finding it difficult to exist unless they improve the quality of their products, increase productivity and be innovative in their production.

All this needs bringing in latest technology available and this calls for substantial capital investment, he said. CLCSS has gone a long way in helping SSIs to equip itself for technology upgradation , he added. He urged the Minister to impress upon the Planning Commission for the necessity to continue with the scheme.
