`Budget neglects Coimbatore infrastructure'

Our Bureau

Coimbatore March 26 The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, has said the reduction in the interest rate for crop loans from 7 to 5 per cent and simplification in the State VAT offering 4 per cent tax on all industrial inputs besides the separate part in Schedule One for industrial inputs announced in the Budget are positive.

But the chamber regretted that the Budget had skirted the issue of infrastructure development for Coimbatore. The chamber President, Mr D. Balasundaram, in a statement here on Friday said the 2007-08 State Budget had committed to spend Rs 80,000 crore for the Eleventh Plan to enable 9 per cent growth.
