Pioneer ties up with Prasad Seeds

Our Bureau

Hyderabad March 26 Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc has entered into an agreement to work with a new production plant in Medchal, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. This new facility is owned and operated by Prasad Seeds.

Coupled with the existing Pioneer infrastructure, it will ensure that the company has the additional resources necessary to continue to deliver the highest-quality seeds, at the right time, to its growing customer base in India.

Mr Don Miles, Pioneer Director, Supply Operations, officially introduced the new plant on March 12, according to a press release from the company..

Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a subsidiary of DuPont, is the world's leading source of customised solutions for farmers, livestock producers and grain and oilseed processors. With headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, it provides access to advanced plant genetics, crop protection solutions and quality crop systems to customers in nearly 70 countries.

The new plant offers much-needed drying and conditioning capacity for substantial increase in production — to accommodate the growing farmers' demand for seed corn — this season, the release said.

Bulk trials were conducted at the plant, and the equipment performance was within Pioneer standards for high quality seed production. The plant is expected to dry 3,500-4,000 million tonnes of corn seed this season. The facility will also have the ability to dry hybrid rice seed and condition, treat and package rice, corn and pearl millet seed.

Commenting on the agreement to work with a service-providing company like Prasad Seeds, Mr K.V. Subbarao, India Manager, Pioneer, said, "We are confident in our strategic partnership with Prasad Seeds, a vendor of high quality services. Our customers will receive the same high-quality seed products that they expect from Pioneer".

The drier operation was set-up within a five-month period, and it showcases the competencies and the project execution capabilities of Prasad Seeds, he said.
