Ashok Leyland plans new tractor soon

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam March 26 Ashok Leyland is introducing a new tractor next month, a 49-tonne vehicle, particularly suited for container cargo and also a luxury passenger bus sometime during the year, according to Mr Vinod K. Dasari, Chief Operating Officer.

He was speaking at a press meet before the inauguration of a new branch of Automotive Manufacturers at Gajuwaka near here.

Market Share

He said the company could sell more than 10,000 vehicles during the current financial year in Andhra Pradesh. "Andhra Pradesh is one of the major markets and we have 60 per cent market share in the State in the segment, but still we want to improve," he said.

He said the company was working on a luxury air-conditioned passenger bus in collaboration with a Spanish company, which might be introduced during the year. The demand for such buses was, however, limited and the company would be able to cater to the needs of the market, he said.

Latest Tools

Mr B.M. Sanghavi, Chairman and Managing Director of the Automotive Manufacturers' Private Ltd, said the new branch located in the autonagar at Gajuwaka on 2.75 acres would have 20 bays and there was also provision for expansion. "The workshop is equipped with the latest tools and the workforce has been trained to meet the requirements of the customers," he said.
