Our Bureau

Bangalore March 26 Starting this academic year, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, is all set to hike its fee for PGP (Post Graduate Programme in Management) from Rs 1.75 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.

This decision was taken at the board of directors meeting held today at the campus.

Justifying this steep fee hike (by Rs 75,000), Prof Prakash G. Apte, Director, IIMB, said: "Students will earn close to Rs 7-8 lakh after the programme and can easily afford this."

According to him, the cost of the programme for the institute is around Rs 4 lakh and the institute was only recovering 50 per cent of this. "They also have easy access to freeships and scholarships," he said.

On whether there is a fee hike on the anvil for other programmes, he said that would be decided soon. The student intake for PGP course has been fixed for 270 for this year, he said.

The board of directors of IIMB met today prior to the 32nd annual convocation.

Mr Nandan Nilekani, CEO and Managing Director, Infosys Ltd, was the chief guest at the function. Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, RIL and Chairman of the IIMB board, was also present at the convocation.
