General Insurance States - Andhra Pradesh AP Govt plans new health scheme Our Bureau
The Government is keen to provide the multi-specialty treatment worth Rs 1.5 lakh to the poor, and the scheme will encompass all members of the family.
Hyderabad March 27 The Andhra Pradesh Government will launch `Arogya Sri', a new health insurance scheme on March 31 at Mahboobnagar, Srikakulam and Ananthapur districts on a pilot basis. It will be implemented by the State Government in collaboration with Star Health & Allied Insurance Company.
Insurance Facilities
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on March 8, 2007. The scheme will be a cashless transaction for the beneficiaries. "The patient gets admitted, operated and discharged without paying even single paisa, which is unique by all means," the State Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said. "Below Poverty Line (BPL) families can avail health insurance facilities worth lakhs of rupees that too in the networked multi-specialties hospitals under the "Arogya Sri" scheme. The scheme would be extended all over the State in due course of time," said the Chief Minister, who was deliberating on the scheme with some of the senior officials, here today. The Chief Minister said that any white cardholder is entitled to the new health insurance scheme and the medicare facilities being offered. According to the recent enumeration, 23,16,426 BPL families are there in these three districts comprising a population of 83,39,854. The Government is keen to provide the multi-specialties treatment worth Rs 1.5 lakh to the poor, and the scheme will encompass all members of the family. A "toll-free helpline" would be set up for making the services easily accessible to the rural poor, the Chief Minister said. The Arogya Sri Health Care Trust, recently set up by State Government, will co-ordinate between M&H department, district collectors, civil supplies department as well as the insurance company and the beneficiaries. "We have also decided to start three medical colleges in the State, one each in Adilabad, Ongole and Srikakulam," he said.
