Firms up plans for hardware training foray

Hyderabad March 27 IT and multimedia training provider Aptech Ltd has completed its corporate restructuring process and entered a new growth phase which includes expansion of its overseas operations including China and Malaysia and foray into hardware training.

The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Aptech, Mr Pramod Khera, said that the last two years were witness to management change and two acquisitions — Avalon and Synergestics — necessitating total restructure of the strategy.

"We have recently completed the process and believe that the year ahead would provide us with opportunities for next growth phase,'' he said.

Training biz

Mr Khera told Business Line that the company traditionally had been a big player in retail IT training and has added corporate training arm with the acquisition of Synergestics.

However, this meant total defocus on training in the Government sector, as it is a capital-intensive and low return business.

The Chinese operation, being handled through a joint venture with Beida Jadebird IT Company, now operates about 250 centres in China and accounts for about 40 per cent of revenues.

Apart from growing in China, the company has identified Malaysia, South Africa, Vietnam and Philippines for new centres, he said.

With Nasscom projecting demand-supply mismatch in the hardware sector, Mr Khera said: "we have firmed up plans to foray into hardware training with ten centres in April 2007 and later grow this to about 30 centres by the end of this year."

The company imparts training for clients such as Nokia for new product training, Bajaj and Mahindra & Mahindra for dealer networks, among others, he said.

As a part of retail training arm, Aptech partners Pantaloon, and sees helping more corporate houses in their retail expansion plans, he said.

During last fiscal ended December 2006, the company's systems revenue was Rs 922.67 crore.

"We expect a growth of about 40 per cent this year, with some segments expanding much faster than the industry average," he said.

Through Avalon Aviation Academy, Aptech plans to set up 25 franchisee centres to train people in cabin crew, ground service and cargo handling etc., all related to the aviation industry.
