Wockhardt gets nod for diuretic sales in US

Mumbai March 27

Wockhardt Ltd has received regulatory approvals in the United States to sell its diuretic Furosemide injection there. Furosemide injection is a widely used diuretic, or a drug that helps remove excess water from the body.

This is Wockhardt's second approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in a week, following the approval of painkiller Dextropropoxyphene/Acetaminophen tablets a few days ago.

Regulatory Process

Furosemide is also Wockhardt's fourth injection to receive approval from the US FDA, said the Wockhardt Chairman, Mr Habil Khorakiwala, in a statement issued on Tuesday. "Injectables are a key element of our US strategy. The regulatory process for approval of sterile injectables is complex and demanding, which limits the number of players in the market," he observed.

Wockhardt's US subsidiary, Wockhardt USA Inc, will shortly launch Furosemide injection in the US, the note said.
