Ahmedabad March 28 Jet Airways (India) Ltd has announced the introduction of a new flight linking Ahmedabad with London, with two flights per week effective from April 3, with an additional frequency from May 1.

As part of its expansion programme this year, the private sector airline is also introducing shortly three more international flights on the Mumbai-Brussels-New York, New Delhi-Toronto and the Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco routes, the company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, told a news conference here. The airline plans to extend its international operations to North America, Europe, Africa and Asia in the coming years. The Ahmedabad-London flight, he said, would cater to the large Gujarati and NRI community resident in the UK. Gujarat accounts for 10 per cent of Jet Airways' revenues. Currently, Jet Airways connects Heathrow, London, with twice daily flights from Mumbai, once daily from Delhi and six times a week from Amritsar. Mr Prock-Shauer said as part of its inaugural offer, Jet Airways has introduced a special economy class return airfare of Rs 22,000, exclusive of taxes (about Rs 12,000). This special fare is valid for travel between April 3 and June 30. There is also an added incentive in the form of a "Companion Free Offer" for travel in Premiere Class, valid for travel between April 3 and June 15. The airline will operate its Ahmedabad-London-Ahmedabad flight with an Airbus A330-200 aircraft especially configured for international operations with 30 seats in the Premiere Class and 196 in the Economy Class. Jet Airways, since its inception in May 1993, has flown around 70.5 million passengers so far. It currently operates a fleet of 62 aircraft with 49 classic and next generation Boeing 737-400/700/800/900 aircraft, three Airbus A340-300E aircraft, two Airbus A330-200 aircraft, and eight modern ATR 72-500 turboprop aircraft.

With an average fleet age of 5.3 years, the airline has one of the youngest aircraft fleets in the world. Jet Airways operates over 340 daily flights to 50 destinations spanning the length and breadth of the country and beyond, including London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Bangkok and Kathmandu.
