MindTree Consulting has launched a new practice to tap the rapidly growing Infrastructure Management and Technical Support (IMTS) services business.

The company aims to manage the IT infrastructure of global enterprises and provides third party technical support for enterprise class technology products through its IMTS practice.

MindTree has signed up some 15 new customers in past few months and has ramped up the IMTS team to around 120 people. The company has set up a network operating centrer (NOC) in Bangalore to monitor, manage and operate enterprise infrastructure remotely.

Further, the company proposes to set up another NOC in Chennai by the end of 2007, said Mr Ram C. Mohan, MindTree Consulting Vice-President and Head of Infrastructure Management & Technical Support Services.

"Falling telecom costs, coupled with the fact that most of the managed platforms are Web enabled, provide a boost to this sector," he saidAs part of the IMS, MindTree will offer server and storage management, network management, database administration and management, performance management and IT helpdesk.

MindTree will offer technical support for packaged applications and enterprise products, leveraging several years of experience in business application development and product realization services.

"For MindTree's future growth, it is important to have a balanced mix of predictable, annuity-based customers and project-based customers," said Mr Ashok Soota, MindTree Consulting Chairman & Managing Director. "Infrastructure management and technical support services offer high predictability and have strong growth potential. There is a large untapped market in this sector, which is increasingly becoming open for off shoring."
