SAP unveils process for tagging

Our Bureau

Bangalore, March 29

SAP on Thursday unveiled Product Tracking and Authentication (PTA), a business process for radio frequency identification (RFID) applications. PTA enables companies to track and authenticate the serialised products that they manufacture and distribute, both within their own enterprise and when products are in the custody of trading partners.

Companies such as defence contractors and automotive suppliers will be able to verify the usage of qualified parts and prevent usage of duplicate or unwarranted parts by tracking the unique serial numbers, business events and transactions associated with the parts. SAP's newly developed Object Event Repository will manage information from sensor-tagged objects.
